ETERNITY BLACK: Former HELSTAR Guitarist Discusses New Project

March 25, 2005

Texas-based metal band ETERNITY BLACK, featuring former HELSTAR members Larry Barrigan (guitar),Rob Trevino (guitar) and Russell Deleon (drums),recently made song samples from their latest demo available for download at EternityBlack.com. The demo CDs will arrive in time for their next show Friday, March 25 at Houston's Forgetta 'bout It club.

While recording at Spyder Studio with engineer/producer Gregg Gill, Barragan took time out to answer a few questions about ETERNITY BLACK.

Q: Is ETERNITY BLACK going to be the next HELSTAR?

Larry: "After close to 20 years of being out of HELSTAR our philosophy of what our music should sound like has obviously changed. We're more about being aggressive and angry. Also, to try to redo HELSTAR would be a huge injustice to James [Rivera, HELSTAR frontman] and what he's done to keep HELSTAR alive."

Q: What would you compare ETERNITY BLACK's sound to? What are your influences?

Larry: "Some say we sound like NEVERMORE. That's a big compliment. I would think we have traces of all the bands we like, PANTERA, SABBATH, METALLICA, SLAYER. Everyone bows to SLAYER. I like all metal. I don't divide it. KORN is metal, SKINLAB, CRISIS, MASTODON, SLIPKNOT, MOTÖRHEAD. It's all heavy metal."

Q: Give us a few thoughts about the ETERNITY BLACK lineup.

Larry: "This is a very mature band. We work so well together, we feed off each other, and we are able to keep our egos from getting in the way of each other's ideas. I love playing in this band. I'm having the best time playing with these guys."

Q: What has your experience been like working with engineer/producer Gregg Gill at Spyder Studio, who also engineered and co-produced James Rivera's DISTANT THUNDER "Welcome the End" CD?

Larry: "Gregg is awesome! Being at Spyder was like being at home. And as far as the sound, I think that speaks for itself. Everything is PRO!!! He was able to capture what ETERNITY BLACK is… a heavy fuckin' metal band!!"
